We’re all for a bit of creativity, and someone who’s been on our radar for a while is East Anglia-based pig farmer Molly-Anne Gimson.

Molly-Anne won the Young Pig Farmer of the Year award at last year’s National Pig Awards and is the recipient of a Suffolk Rising Star Scholarship Award from the Suffolk Agricultural Association.

She also featured on our podcast – The AG Show – recently to tell us all about how she converted a former horse box trailer into a mobile café that she takes to pubs and events in the surrounding area. Apparently, her pulled pork wraps are such a hit that she’s already begun work on converting another vehicle to help grow the business.

Juggling the venture while working four days a week and every other weekend on the family farm, the entrepreneur explained that she still finds time to help where she can with Ladies in Pigs.

“What they [Ladies in Pigs] do for the pig industry really should be recognised. Basically, trying to get people to eat more British pork, which is everything I stand for. I can’t praise them hard enough.”

Molly-Anne added that it was important to be involved with such organisations to encourage more support for farmers.

“For most people, it’s a lack of education, but a lot of people want to learn. That’s what I think is great about Ladies in Pigs and going into shows – you teach so many things.

“People don’t even necessarily know to look for British meat and Red Tractor and what it means for food standards and requirements. It’s an excellent thing to tell people what it’s all about. It’s then their choice whether they want to follow it or not.”
